Dearest Marian
I feel a little tired tonight but thought I would write you a few pages before I go to sleep.
I finished my job at the Cuneo ranch tonight so will be off for Lodi bright and early tomorrow
morning (Thurs.)
The place I worked today was a kick.
I was invited to have lunch with them and accepted as it was too far to come in for such a trivial
thing as lunch - They had stufatto a-la-Zanese and plenty!
Then he asked what I was and I said Nap.[?] Then he said "Here have some strong cheese" I had some - also some garlic salami and salad with plenty of onions (they raise
them) and salt, and no vinegar. The had big long heavy loaves of bread
and all you had to do was grab the bread and cut a hunk with the butcher knife - everybody had a butcher
knife - The fellows are batchelors and the house smelled like it. After lunch they discussed politics and the weather -- and Genoa. Out of eight fellows eating though, one
really worried me - he ate his potatoes and salad with a knife - I though sure he would injure his tonsils or slice his tongue.
Well sweetheart, my writing is terrible tonight but my spirits are high as they always are when you love me.
I sometimes wonder how I can be so mean to you! I don't see any reason for it, excepting myself - God knows I love you very dearly and I hope that I will always deserve your
love and respect in return - Good night Sweetheart.
I will probably think of you five hundred times ere I see you again.
Love and more love,
Marino
