Marino and Marian have reached the point of wanting to marry. Marino has been getting more business and
is feeling on more level footing. It's 1932 and Marian, being the only
member of her family (the Zurlo's) who is employed is unable to consider marriage. During this period, PG&E would not employ married women, because all viable
jobs were reserved for men or single women. These letters reflect the closeness of their relationship and some frustration over being unable to wed.
